Kids, be Punk!

Are you a teenager looking for an identity? Do you wanna be different from your parents and from all the other kids? Do you think you think different? Are you sick of swallowing all the outdated information and useless maculature teachers serve you? Are you tired of old mentalities and retarded new trends? Do you care about the world, about becoming informed and making a difference? (this is an important one)

Well, if your not the retarded drunk failure like the majority of punkers are,  then PUNK is the thing for you.
I'm not interested in the music here (which is the greatest  in the world, obviously :D) I'm talking about the attitude. It seems the majority of teenagers take up a trend of some kind or get involved in a group, it's a social and psychological necessity. So my point is,  why not choose a benefic one? Why not choose to become someone you'll be proud to tell your kids about?

Let me sum up the punk ideology for you, darlings. It started off as an individual expression , and , really , began when people like Richard Hell were so poor that they couldn't afford to buy new shirts and had to keep old shirts together with saftey pins... well, you don't mind that.

The punk mindset comes almost naturally for most of you, you just don't know it. Contrary to popular belief, punk it's not about destroying valuable public property and setting cars on fire. Those are the primitive mothe'fuckerz and unfortunately ruin the reputation of the others. Punk is about critical thinking and rejecting authority, on an intellectual level. It's about asking questions and demanding rational answers. Not taking their bullshit. It's about wanting to know why and wondering if there could be another way of doing things. And most importantly, it's about NOT shutting up and Not just sitting there as witnesses, watching someone else taking decisions for you. NO. Punk is about coming out and exercise your right to free speach, about protesting, debating big issues and demanding to be listened in the matters that involve your rights. Punk is Change as a way of progress.

Of course, punk it's much, much more that this, but you'll learn as you go. This is not the ultimate guide that dictates you what you must do,  but rather points out the basics for now. I'm not gonna tell you what bands to listen to or what clothes to wear,  how much alcohool to drink or who you should be fucking on a friday-night with full moon. That is seriously irrelevant. Anyway, I trust you are able to make your own decisions and set your tastes straight for yourself... punk is attitude, not law.

Then there are the things PUNK IS NOT and those need to be stated out clearly:
- don't rush out to buy the trendiest "punk" clothes in the Mall and showing everybody off your "different-ness".  It's not fucking COMMERCIAL. "Punk" was never something you were supposed to be able to buy in a store and off of a rack.
-don't disagree with everything and everybody just for the pleasure of it. No, when you criticise something, be sure to know what in the world you're talking about.
- don't choose your friends among the 'cool' gang, if they're incredibly cool and widely accepted and popular, that's probably not a good sign. That one is from my experience, but then again, I could be  wrong here seeing as there are exceptions.
- don't enforce your opinion on people, even if it's obvious you're right, it's just not worth arguing with the deaf (that doesn't mean not to hold on to your argument, but merely not to beat up those who disagree -there are other methods)
- don't make it a rule to act as a punker is expected to act. this is not dogma.
- don't continue when you've been defeated. Accept you're wrong when you know you are. That's common sense but it's done incredibly rarely. Recognise your mistakes and upgrade your world-view as you learn more things, don't just stick to the same mentality forever. If you're 14, you'll be doing that intensely.
- don't worship anything, except for one thing :D  critical thinking and intelligence (ok, 2 things)

And in the meantime, you're having fun. Punk is the tipe of music that lights a fire up your ass, it's happy and stimulatig and thought provoking . And I have yet to see a punk-concert which isn't incendiary, which doesn't make the energy just burst out of you in waves of exuberance.

So, what do you think? Instead of being lame emo-kids who rebel by crying and feeling sorry for themselves, while making sure they show the world what they feel and how special they are, why not try to do something worthwhile of yourself? Give it a try darlings and you'll be sure to grow into the adults that will make a difference around here. This society is in painfully need of that.
